Terms & Conditions for Stallion Services

We would like to thank you for your enquiry into our Stallion’s services and we are sure that you will not be sorry with the outcome of your new foal.  To ensure the safety of your mare as well as our stallion, we have set out terms & conditions to our stud services which follow.  Should you wish to qualify for a live foal covering (stud guarantees a live foal to be born, if not, then a new covering will be done free of charge) then all the terms and conditions are non negotiable.  Please also bare in mind that the stud only guarantees live foals to breeders or experienced horsemen who have bred horses before.  If you are a first time breeder, the stud does not guarantee a live foal.  The guarantee of live foal births for Maiden Mares is negotiable and at the discretion of the stud, depending on the condition of the mare, history, etc.

Your mare must be in good health.  Mares that are either too fat or poor in condition are difficult to get in foal and often do not stay in foal.  Do not overfeed your mare thinking that she should be fat prior to going to stud.  Your mare should have good body condition being neither too fat nor too thin.

Your mare’s cycles should be monitored and kept a diary of as soon as she starts to come into season.  This allows us accuracy in terms of when to apply services and thereby reduces unnecessary livery fees on your part.  Livery fees are set at R200.00 per day per mare.  This includes concentrate food, erogrostis, Lucerne, grooming and taking care of.  Please note that while at stud we will do our utmost to take care of your mare and ensure her safety, we will not accept liability for any loss, damage or anything else that may happen to your mare while left at the stud.  Please be further advised that should you leave your mare for livery, we will have her scanned before covering to ensure that she is at the correct time in her season for covering and then again after to ensure that she is pregnant.  This will be at your cost.

A vet can carry out internal examinations or scanning to evaluate the general health and condition of your mare’s reproductive tract. This must be done prior to sending your mare to stud and a copy of the results must be faxed/e-mailed to the stud prior to your mare’s arrival.
